FAQs

How does IPL hair removal work?

Axiom’s IPL system with TLC technology features a dual energy source, maximizing thermal and light energies to coagulate the hair follicle for the purpose of hair removal.  Pulses of light are transmitted and absorbed by melanin in the hair and transformed into heat.  Thermal energy is simultaneously channeled towards the targeted area, gently raising the hair follicle temperature to coagulation point.  This focused activity ensures destruction of the hair follicle at its core without damaging surrounding tissue.

How does IPL differ from traditional laser hair removal?

Although both laser hair removal and IPL hair removal use light to cause thermal damage to the hair follicle, there are significant differences.  For starters, IPL does not use just one wavelength of light the way a laser does . . . every wavelength of light in the visible spectrum is emitted, making IPL therapy more effective.  During treatment, IPL uses specific wavelengths of light that are the optimum for absorption by the melanin pigmentation in hair, while at the same time minimizing trauma to the skin.  In other words, IPL delivers greater energies at optimum wavelengths while offering greater skin protection.

Why is it unique?

Since IPL uses an entirely different wavelength than other lasers, it is more targeted and less damaging.  The targeted hair follicles absorb the light and are heated, then damaged and epilated (or loosened from the root).  The IPL source emits a broad, continuous spectrum of light.  Treatments are safe and very well tolerated.  In addition, The Axiom IPL is a breakthrough phototherapy solution with one of the largest spot (beam) sizes in the industry, allowing for shorter treatment times with unparalleled results.

How is IPL hair removal performed?

IPL hair removal is performed using a specialized device that emits high-energy intense-pulsed light, a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed.  The light's energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.  IPL spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage and quicker treatments as a result.

Is IPL hair removal safe?

The patented Axiom system holds CE, FDA and ISO certifications so you know you’re being treated by state-of-the-art, proven technology.

Can any area of the body be treated with IPL?

Any area of the body, except around the eyes, can be treated with IPL.  Facial and bikini areas can typically be completed in less than 15 minutes, although individual treatment protocols may vary.

How many treatments will I need to stunt hair re-growth?

A series of treatments is necessary in order to reach maximum results since at any given time some of your hair is not in a phase of active growth.  During your initial consultation, your expectations and needs will be discussed, in addition to skin analysis, in order to ascertain if you are an appropriate candidate for IPL therapy or traditional laser hair removal.  If applicable, a treatment plan will be discussed, which includes cost, aftercare and the expected number of treatments necessary to achieve your goals.
